Here are our DIY Solutions to Miele Appliance Problems.
Dishwasher Repair
The most common problem with dishwashers is standing water after a complete cycle. In most cases, standing water means issues with the high loop preventing backflow from the drain to the dishwasher. Since most dishwashers drain into the disposal underneath the kitchen sink, you’ll want to take a peek under the sink to inspect the dishwasher drain hose. If it looks like the water is going back into the dishwasher, you most likely have backflow.
Fortunately, this is an easy repair. First, lift the hose and attach it to the drain line using a zip tie. Next, fasten the zip tie to the cabinet as high as possible to prevent backflow if the drain line is raised high enough. This is called a high loop.
If your dishwasher isn’t cleaning your dishes, clean the filter, practice proper loading techniques, and clean the air gap and high loop.
Oven Repair
No one wants to bake a batch of cookies, only for them to come out mushy or burned. If you notice your food not baking correctly, you may need to replace your Miele oven’s heating element or igniter. Before beginning, make sure to shut off the power to the oven. Next, locate the heating element inside the Miele oven or the igniter underneath it. Then, use a screwdriver to remove the broken part. Finally, position the new piece in place.
If your Miele oven has a burning smell when it’s on, you’ll need to clean the inside of the appliance with hot water, a scrub pad, and a degreaser to wipe off any excess debris. Cleaning the appliance yourself is safer and more effective than your oven’s self-cleaning option.
Stove Repair
If your stove goes out or isn’t heating up, your best place to start is by checking the element, otherwise known as the burner. If it doesn’t appear to be heating up, the problem may be the receptacle. Before examining the receptacle, make sure to turn off the electricity to the stove by shutting off the circuit breaker. If the wires connected to the receptacles look damaged, you’ll need to replace them. You can buy a kit to replace the wiring and casing of your receptacle. If you prefer not to work with wire and electricity, call in a professional.
Washing Machine Repair
A common problem with washing machines is loud rattling noises or vibrations due to improper leveling. To determine if the appliance is unlevel, take a carpenter’s bubble and place it on the washing machine. If the bubble isn’t centered, you’ll need to adjust the legs by tightening the lock nuts against the body of the machine. If it’s still shaking or making rattling noises, check the floor to see if it’s stable. We also recommend keeping your washing machine balanced by putting towels with towels, jeans with jeans, and delicates with delicates.
Another issue that may arise with your Miele appliance is wear and tear on the pump, motor, and seals. Never put in too much laundry detergent to avoid damaging the machine and its parts. Instead, we recommend measuring the detergent using the measuring device that comes with high-quality products. Remember, less is more.
Dryer Repair
Similar to washing machines, dryers can shake and rattle. Fortunately, the same solution we mentioned above for washing machines applies to dryers.
Unfortunately, other problems can arise with dryers. If your dryer takes multiple cycles to dry your clothes, there may be a clog in the exhaust, causing poor air circulation and damaged components. You can prevent this by cleaning the lint screen after every use and avoiding overfilling your dryer. You may also want to clean and scrub the filter with dish soap and a toothbrush.
If you notice a burning smell, the dryer vents are most likely clogged, becoming a fire hazard and leading to even more substantial problems inside your home. Thoroughly clean your dryer vents regularly to prevent any clogs or further damage.
Refrigerator Repair
A rattling refrigerator can be unsettling. After all, it’s an essential appliance that holds all of your fresh produce, condiments, eggs, herbs, and more. Fortunately, this is a fairly straightforward fix. Rattling comes from loose parts, so tighten any loose components and adjust the feet to absorb the vibration.
You may also notice a decrease in your refrigerator’s efficiency. This is most likely caused by blocked airflow due to coils being clogged with dirt, hair, dust, food, and other debris. To clean the condenser coils:
- Unplug the fridge and move it away from the wall.
- Locate the coils at the bottom of the appliance.
- Vacuum up any debris and clean any excess grime using a brush.
